Voting is still open for a limited time for the fan vote for Chivas USA's Most Valuable Player in 2011, but we wanted to open up another category of voting for the season: top defender. So weigh in - who is the defender of the year for Chivas USA? I'm guessing the vote could be pretty lopsided, but who knows? That's why you get a chance to weigh in. Following the closing of the vote, I'll announce the winner and offer my own choice, if it differs from the fans' choice, just like the overall MVP vote. Now, the club has announced their season award winners, but have your say! Let all your Chivas fan friends and relatives know!

I have opened up all the nominees to players that have started in defense this season, with a couple of exceptions. Although Ben Zemanski started a couple of games in defense this season, he spent most of his time in the midfield and I don't think anyone would have classified him as a defender this year. Also, I didn't include Jimmy Conrad as he only played two games all season. As much as it could be sentimental to vote Conrad as defender of the year, it wouldn't make much sense from an actual soccer perspective. And finally, I didn't include Mariano Trujillo, because he saw limited time and didn't start a single match this season.
