Although the 2011 MLS has recently ended, there are people who are already looking ahead to next season. This may help you count the days down - literally. Today, news came out from the league about the home openers for all teams. Chivas USA will start their 2012 campaign on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the Home Depot Center. Their opponent is not currently known, but by process of elimination, it could be Sporting Kansas City, the Montreal Impact, Real Salt Lake, Philadelphia Union, Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew, New England Revolution, Toronto FC, New York Red Bulls, or the Houston Dynamo. All of these teams don't open at home until at least the second week of the season.
Feel free to speculate about the opponent in the home opener. Last year, Chivas opened the season against Sporting Kansas City, and it's possible the same could happen again this year. Bear in mind also that the home openers in the first week are mostly situated in the West, so I'm guessing it won't be RSL, although you never know. Reports are that the full schedule will be released much farther in advance this offseason, with projections estimated at January.
