A couple of transfer rumors are circulating, and what better way than to introduce a new series to the site. It seems Chivas USA has really targeted Ecuador in looking for talent and value, as you'll remember the current front office drafted forward Victor Estupiñan back in January and recently signed midfielder Oswaldo Minda. Well, there's more news on that front. Reports coming out of Ecuador on futbolecuador.com (in Spanish) have been saying that 21 year old midfielder Miller Bolaños has been offered a six-month loan to Chivas USA, with the club having an option to keep him beyond that. Bolaños has played with LDU Quito since 2009, and was a member of the squad during their recent run to the finals of the Copa Sudamericana, where they fell to Universidad de Chile.
No word from the club on this rumor, so as ever, wait and see if this rumor has legs. Although the midfield looks pretty crowded for Chivas in 2012, having a young player in Bolaños who could hopefully bring skill or speed to a squad needing some of both would be great, I think we'll all agree.Another transfer rumor deals with one of Chivas' current Ecuadoreans. Estupiñan evidently spoke with Diario los Andes (Spanish) and said he is weighing his options, but that he will likely return to Ecuador shortly. I really thought he was coming on at the end of the season and getting his footing in MLS, but if he can leverage his stint in MLS to a bigger payday in his home country and he can work on getting to that 30 goal mark, I guess I can't begrudge him. Another reason for his departure may be that he was on loan from LDU Quito, and they recalled him, as was recently reported by Goal.com (Spanish) in order perhaps to force Chivas USA to buy him, or failing that, to get another club to buy him outright. Stay tuned on this story as well.
In other transfer rumor updates, the player who divides opinion perhaps more than any other, Adolfo 'Bofo' Bautista, has re-signed with Chivas de Guadalajara, according to mediotiempo.com (Spanish), but only to play in the Copa Libertadores competition. According to the report, Chivas owner Jorge Vergara (who also co-owns Chivas USA) would only agree to the move if Bofo shaved off the blue mohawk he had while playing with Queretaro in the recent Liguilla in Mexico. I'm not sure if it was the blue or the mohawk that bothered him, but pay attention, Jorge Villafana. At any rate, those of you who harbor dreams of Bofo in LA, it looks like you won't get your wish this time either.
Finally, not a transfer story per se, but an update from earlier in the season. Former Chivas USA trialist Jason Banton, who has bounced around Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers, among other English clubs, announced on twitter through a conversation with Jeremiah Oshan that he's signed with MLS and will be at the draft combine and will be part of the SuperDraft. Considering Chivas passed on him when they had a chance to sign him, I'm guessing they won't be selecting him, but you never know.
