A few news updates on a Monday...

Congrats to Alejandro Moreno and Venezuela! They lost on penalties to Paraguay in the semifinals of the Copa America and then lost 4-1 to Peru in the 3rd place game, but their fourth place finish is higher than ever before in their history. Coach Cesar Farias tinkered with his forward line throughout the tournament, but Moreno started the semifinal match, so he was called upon in the big moment. Unfortunately, their fairy tale run ended before the finals, but it was still a terrific performance for La Vinotinto. Now, Moreno is expected to return to Chivas shortly and could be back in the lineup on Sunday against FC Dallas.

Continued after the jump.

The newest transfer rumor for Chivas USA concerns Honduran international Mario Martinez. The 21-year old is an attacking midfielder, and according to MLS-Rumors.net Chivas have been putting out feelers about him. He is under contract to the Honduran club Real Espana, but according to his wikipedia page, which to be fair looks a bit incomplete, he has played with Norwegian club Valerenga and Belgian club Anderlecht (which is the current club of former Chivas player Sacha Kljestan). If Martinez is willing to come to the U.S. and is decent, it could potentially be a good move, as at 21 he could use a successful stint at Chivas to get back to Europe. Obviously, it is just a rumor, so don't get too caught up in thinking about him just yet, but maybe something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.

Finally, Nick LaBrocca is getting a lot of attention around the league for his MLS All-star selection. He's being called "the breakout star of this MLS All-Star team." Take a look at today's article by Nick Firchau on the team's official website for more on LaBrocca preparing for the All-Star game. It seems he is really pretty low-key about his selection, and his admission that he's having a career year because Chivas lacks stars is not only accurate but also unusually frank. It is also nice to see him getting attention beyond the Chivas circle. But what do you think? Will he see playing time on Wednesday?
