Chivatown Post: The Future is Bright Edition

Just a couple of quick news items to post this morning. First, if drafts are your thing, you may be aware of the MLS Combine, currently taking place in Florida. The Combine features a selection of top college players who have run out of eligibility or are going pro, in addition to a handful of international invitees. Not all of these players will be selected in the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday, but most picks will come from this group. The second of three days of games at the combine take place today, starting at 11:30 am PST, broadcast on the MLS website. The final round of matches among participants will take place Tuesday, and those will also be broadcast online. You will also find the rosters of the various combine squads on the league website as well. Check it out if you are interested in seeing some of tomorrow's MLS players today (literally).

In news concerning players involved with Chivas USA who may feature in the first team in the future, Gabe Dahl has an article over at the club's website about two players, midfielder Adonis Amaya and forward Bradford Jamieson, who have had their residency stint with the U17 U.S. Men's National Team Residency Program in Florida extended. As the article indicates, the extension is a good sign for both Chivas Youth Academy players, because of the competition for such slots among players around the country. Obviously, involvement in the youth ranks of the USMNT does not guarantee future success as professionals at the senior level, but it demonstrates promise. Congratulations to Amaya and Jamieson, and continue working hard in the residency program!

Dahl also has an article, also on the club website, discussing the recent call-up of fellow Chivas Youth Academy players Ben Spencer and Marky Delgado to the U18 USMNT training camp in Florida, which wraps up tomorrow. Chivas U16 coach Mike Munoz sounds excited by the opportunity for the players, and it does seem to demonstrate an amount of quality among the Chivas Academy. Let's hope the accolades keep coming for the Academy players.
