It was a pretty successful weekend for Chivas USA USSDA Academy teams this past weekend. The U16s dominated Pateadores 4-0 Sunday, while the U18s got a last-minute goal to tie Pateadores 1-1, also on Sunday.
On the scoresheet for the U16s were a few familiar names. Axel Mendez got the scoring started in the 32nd minute, followed by Ryo Fujii in the 35th minute. Mendez got his second of the game in the 51st minute, and Josh Perez, the player who's been tipped to make big waves in the future, finished off the scoring in the 61st minute. The win moves the junior Goats to second place in the Southwest Division, behind only Real Salt Lake-Arizona.
The U18s couldn't get the win, but they were able to grab the draw in their match this weekend. Steven Ortiz opened the scoring for Pateadores in the 28th minute, and it looked like they would be able to hold onto the win. But Adam Olsen popped up with the equalizer in the 90th minute for Chivas to split the spoils. The result leaves Chivas in fourth place in the Southwest Division, with Pateadores keeping a two point cushion in third, although Chivas do have a game in hand on Pateadores and division-leading RSL-AZ.
It seems like the Academy teams are getting into gear as the season is moving along. Keep up the good work boys!
