With Chivas USA in their offseason, players need to find opportunities to get some training in, to help maintain some fitness and to hopefully hone their game. Chivas USA forward Juan Agudelo, fresh off an assist in his substitute appearance with the U.S. Men's National Team 2-2 draw with Russia on Wednesday, is training with famed Scottish club Celtic F.C.
Although it may be reported that Agudelo may be on trial with Celtic, I spoke with Chivas USA's communications department and was told it was just a training stint, not a trial, and that it was scheduled to last one week. Following that, he is expected to go back to offseason mode for the time being.
Training in Europe during the offseason is not new for the 19-year old. Last year, Agudelo spent two weeks with Liverpool. He has also trained with Stuttgart. The good news is that these training stints will allow Agudelo to learn and hopefully improve as a player, but it is also savvy to make connections in Europe in order to facilitate a future move to Europe. At the moment, it seems very likely he will be returning to Chivas USA for the 2013 season, but if he bounces back next season, he may get that long-anticipated move to Europe sooner than later.
Best of luck to Juan in this endeavor!
