Major League Soccer has announced the home openers for all 19 clubs for the upcoming 2013 season. Chivas USA will begin the 2013 campaign with a home game on the first day of the season, March 2nd, and they will host the Columbus Crew at the Home Depot Center. Opening day will be the earliest in the league's history, and other details of the schedule concerning Chivas USA have not yet been released.
MLS will use the same unbalanced schedule format in 2013 as they did this past season, which means that out-of-conference opponents will only be played once a season. In 2012, Chivas visited Columbus late in the season, and lost 1-0. Using the format that home and road games against Eastern Conference opponents will be reversed from year to year, Chivas will host D.C. United, the New England Revolution, the New York Red Bulls, Toronto FC, and Columbus in 2013, while they will travel to face the Montreal Impact, Philadelphia Union, Chicago Fire, Sporting Kansas City, and the Houston Dynamo. Meanwhile, the Goats will face Western Conference opponents three times again in 2013, and the number of home and road games will be the opposite of 2012 (in other words, because Chivas played the Portland Timbers twice on the road in 2012, they will be at home twice against Portland in 2013).
As I mentioned, other details of the schedule have not yet been released, but we will let you know when we find out more! Are you getting ready for 2013 yet?
