While some MLS teams are worrying about player personnel moves, Chivas USA is still looking around for a coaching staff and General Manager. I wrote the other day about Chivas USA owner Jorge Vergara blowing through that 10 day timetable for announcing a new head coach back on November 13, and now a new wrinkle has been added to the saga. During tonight's second leg of the Liga MX final between Club Tijuana and Toluca, Chivas de Guadalajara announced they fired Johan Cruyff as an advisor (Spanish). Cruyff was brought into the Mexican club in February, and he selected coach John van t' Schip, who helped bring Chivas to a liguilla berth this season in Liga MX.
At the increasingly infamous November 13 press conference, Vergara claimed that the Dutch legend would be playing a substantial role in selecting Chivas USA's new coach. It has been 19 days since the press conference, and no news on a coach. Whether this means we'll have an even longer wait to hear about a coach is unclear.
Of course, the fact that Chivas released this news during a final when Chivas wasn't playing is poor form. This "new era" is off to a rocky start.
