Chivas USA Academy's Ben Spencer Scheduled for Trial with Toulouse

While he's in Europe, the young striker will also stop by France for another trial.

Over at Topdrawersoccer.com today, J.R. Eskilson fills in the story he broke last week, that Chivas USA Academy striker Ben Spencer was on trial with Norwegian club Molde. In his article today, Eskilson reports that in addition to the Molde trial, he has also scheduled an upcoming trial with French club Toulouse.

Toulouse play in Ligue 1, and currently sit in eight place in the league. They are not a club with a history of signing Americans, but Americans have played in the league in recent years, such as Charlie Davies and Carlos Bocanegra.

Eskilson's article mentions that Spencer already had a trial with an unnamed Portuguese club earlier this year, but it is evident that he was not offered a contract.

Of course, either of Spencer's trials in Norway or France could lead to no contract offer, but given the interest, it looks increasingly likely that he will be making a move to Europe sooner rather than later. He has committed to UC Santa Barbara for college, but that appears to be a fall-back option. As for a potential future with Chivas USA, that also looks more unlikely as the days progress. Still, we'll keep track of the story and let you know when we find out more.
