Chelís Reportedly Chivas USA's Next Coach

Several American soccer media outlets have lit upon a report from mediotiempo.com yesterday that Jose Luis Sanchez Sola, known as "Chelís," will be the next head coach of Chivas USA. Although the article from Jose Maria Garrido made pains to explain that Chelís did not come right out and admit he is the next coach, the rest of the article consisted of the former Puebla coach discussing what he would (will?) do as Chivas USA's coach. Among other things, he bemoans the uniform style in MLS, and wants to implement a Mexican style in the team (article is in Spanish).

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Sanchez also complains that Chivas USA had no Mexicans on their squad in 2012, so if he becomes the coach, expect an influx of Mexican-born players.

To add to the belief that he is the next coach, Chelís has been responding to tweets on his account (@elchelis) in the past day or so, with his answers appearing like he will be the new coach. He also went on Jorge Ramos' radio program on Thursday discussing MLS and Chivas USA, although he also did not discuss any specifics about the coaching job.

As I mentioned when the rumor that he was among the candidates appeared a few days back, Sanchez is 53 and has spent his entire coaching career in Mexico. A native of Puebla, he's spent the most time with local club Puebla, and has also had stints with Estudiantes Tecos and most recently second division side Correcaminos.

Ives Galarcep continues to speculate that former U.S. Men's National Team head coach Steve Sampson will be the next General Manager or Technical Director, depending on how Jorge Vergara maps out the front office positions. Sampson was also interviewed on Ramos' radio program Thursday, but he was equally cagey about any specific offers from Vergara.
