Just a quick news note. Reports today from Scott French on ESPN and Adam Serrano on the league website note that two goalkeepers have been released by Chivas USA during training camp: Kevin Guppy and Carl Woszczynski. Guppy was a pool keeper for the league, and has spent time with Chivas as well as the Portland Timbers, and used Carson as his training base. Earlier this offseason, the signs seemed to indicate that Guppy was going to be signed, especially after he was touted by the club in a community appearance in December. According to French, he's going on trial to another MLS club, so he may have asked for the release to get a new chance to find a club. Also, he may have originally been in the front office's plans, but the signing of Tim Melia may have meant they wanted to go in a different direction.

Meanwhile, Woszczynski only spent a few days with the club overall, apparently failing to catch Robin Fraser's eye. He was a supplemental draftee of the Chicago Fire last month, but was released prior to joining Chivas. He may now go to a new MLS club, or he might try his luck in a lower level of the professional pyramid.

That leaves Brian Rowe and perhaps Academy keeper Jake McGuire in the running, by my count. There could also be another guy in camp or somebody asked to trial in the coming weeks. I expect Melia to be Dan Kennedy's backup, so assuming the first two guys don't get knocked out of action during the season (fingers crossed!) the third keeper is not necessarily the biggest issue concerning the roster. Still, when news comes up regarding the slot, we'll let you know.
