One match is in the books for the Portland Timbers' preseason tournament, and Chivas USA were defeated by Swedish side AIK 2-0 Monday evening. Goals by Viktor Lundberg (41st minute) and Atakora Lalawele (52nd minute) made the difference for the European side. Meanwhile, Chivas apparently worked hard and showed signs of promise, according to eyewitness reports on twitter, but the goals didn't come. Juan Pablo Angel did score in the 11th minute, but the goal was called back for being offside. Obviously, if he could have managed to score onside, who knows how the game might have turned out with an early Chivas goal.

Here was the starting lineup for the Goats: Dan Kennedy; James Riley, John Valencia, Heath Pearce, Ante Jazic; Oswaldo Minda, Alejandro Moreno, Michael Lahoud, Ryan Smith, Miller Bolanos; Juan Pablo Angel (captain)

Chivas subs in the second half were trialist Alan Souza for Smith at the restart, Ben Zemanski in for Bolanos in the 56th minute, Laurent Courtois in for Lahoud in around the 60th minute, Casey Townsend in for Moreno in the 63rd minute, Cesar Romero for JPA (minute unknown).

As I said, between the team's official twitter feed, and writer and Soccer Made in PDX co-host Michael Orr, who was at the match, several Chivas players got positive reviews, including Bolanos, Smith and Lahoud on the wings, Souza, Valencia, and Romero. Although I didn't get to see the match, it seems Chivas had sustained periods of good play, but once again goals on either side of the break hurt their odds of getting a win or draw.

Next up for Chivas is their match against the Timbers on Thursday at 7:30 pm. Happily, this match is guaranteed to be streamed, while rumors have come out that Chivas and San Jose may figure out a way to stream their match on Sunday, which will be happy news indeed. Although preseason matches are not the same as the real thing, with it being a major preseason event, and with demand for an online stream among Chivas fans pretty high, it would be great to see at least two of the three matches. Make it happen Chivas!
