Good news! Dan Kennedy is finally starting to get some long-overdue plaudits for his play, as he won MLS Player of the Week for Week 6 of the season. Although Chivas USA had some nervy moments during the match, Kennedy played a significant role in getting the Goats another victory on the road against Toronto FC. In particular, his save on Danny Koevermans' shot in the 89th minute Saturday sealed the victory instead of Chivas leaving Toronto with only a point.

The honor is significant for a few reasons - not only is a Chivas player getting it for the first time since Week 9 of the 2011 season, when Justin Braun got it for his hat trick against the New York Red Bulls, but he's the first goalkeeper to win the award this season. In fact, Kennedy beat out Thierry Henry, who won it the previous three weeks. Furthermore, it is good to see Kennedy getting the recognition he has deserved for quite some time, and his name is now cropping up in MLS All-Star talk and even U.S. Men's National Team banter. I have no idea what his realistic chances are of meeting those accomplishments, but as someone who has been beating the "Kennedy for USMNT" drum for months, I'm glad other folks are seeing what Chivatown sees on a regular basis.

Speaking of honors for Chivas USA players, Oswaldo Minda has been nominated for MLS Latino de la Jornada 6, which is decided on a fan vote every week. He's up for the award along with the San Jose Earthquakes' Marvin Chavez, FC Dallas' Blas Perez, and the Philadelphia Union's Gabriel Gomez. Considering Chavez could face a suspension after he injured the New York Red Bulls' Roy Miller on a very dangerous tackle last weekend, I'm guessing the other three will probably realistically be in the running. Anyway, support Minda by voting for him!
