Chivas USA played another match in the official MLS Reserve League this morning, hosting the Seattle Sounders at the Home Depot Center. The visitors came away with a 4-3 victory, and gave Chivas their first loss in the reserve league this season.

The scoring opened on Chivas' side early, as Laurent Courtois, who has dropped down the depth chart over the early part of the season, scored off a cross from Cesar Romero in the 8th minute. The goals came frequently from there, as Seattle's Cordell Cato leveled in the 10th minute. Seattle went ahead 2-1 in the 31st minute via Sammy Ochoa before Juan Pablo Angel, getting reserve minutes to get him back to match fitness in a hurry after missing five matches, scored on a penalty kick in the 39th minute. Funny how Chivas have gotten a bunch of penalties in reserve matches (MLS league or otherwise), but they can't draw a PK in league matches to save their lives.

In the second half, Casey Townsend put Chivas ahead again in the 58th minute, but the defense let in another equalizer, as Andy Rose (a UCLA product) scored in the 62nd minute for Seattle. Then Ochoa scored again, and interestingly became the second player passed over by Chivas USA in the 2011 Allocation Order in three days to score on Chivas, as he got the winner in the 70th minute.

It's a reserve game, so no need to get caught up in the result. The important thing is giving guys in the rotation minutes to stay sharp, especially with the fixture congestion in the league and U.S. Open Cup match(es) coming up in the next six weeks or so. Here was the lineup for Chivas:

Tim Melia; Gerardo Daniel Torres; John Valencia, Scott Gordon, Jorge Villafana; Blair Gavin, Marky Delgado, Cesar Romero, Casey Townsend, Juan Pablo Angel, Laurent Courtois

There were a couple of players I'm unsure about based on the initial reports I read that will need to be fleshed out after I read more complete reports. I assume the Torres is Mexican trialist Gerardo Daniel. That said, Chivas' official twitter reported that the Torres who started was subbed out in the 34th minute injured, replaced by Ledesma, presumably trialist Mario. But then a Torres was reported as subbing in for Villafana in the 66th minute - I have no idea if this was a different Torres. Also, a Chavez was reported to be subbed in for JPA in the 60th minute, and I guess that was fellow Mexican trialist Victor Manuel Chavez.

Homegrown signing Delgado went a full 90 minutes in the match, and that is the best we can hope for until he's available for the first team in August. Based on the extensive minutes he's getting with the reserves, I think there's a solid shot he'll get some playing time with the first team come season's end.

The Goats' next MLS Reserve League match is scheduled for May 14 against the San Jose Earthquakes. Expect some non-MLS opposition in reserve matches in the meantime.
