Just a couple of follow up points on the news that Chivas USA's Youth Academy U18 team will be going to the national championship tournament (dubbed "finals week") next month. First, the team learned who they will be playing in their four team group in Houston: FC Dallas' Academy team, Baltimore Bays Chelsea, and Solar Chelsea FC (out of Dallas). Scott French at ESPN reports that FC Dallas is the overall number one seed, and Baltimore Bays Chelsea is behind them as second overall. Secondly, the fact that there are two Texas-based teams in the group could make it tough for Chivas in Houston. Still, this team has already come farther than ever before in Academy history, and they have a talented group of players who could surprise some people yet.

Speaking of talented players, J.R. Eskilson and Travis Clark at TopDrawerSoccer.com, a leading website for youth and college soccer in the U.S., were at the playoffs in Frisco last week and provided their best XI for the U18s. Chivas forward Ben Spencer was included in the best XI list, and defender Alex Heilman was given an honorable mention. Nice job to both Ben and Alex!

For the Chivas USA U16 Academy team, who also played in Frisco last week, they also had a good experience on the field, going 3-0 in a showcase with a 5-4 win over the San Jose Earthquakes team last Friday. Although they didn't get to play in the main event of the playoffs like the U18 team, the U16s got invaluable experience, which should prove useful considering they were one of the youngest teams in the country at the event. Congrats, Future Goats!
