On the heels of Saturday's 1-0 win by Chivas USA over the Portland Timbers, both clubs reserve teams met Sunday. Matthew provided the starting lineups yesterday, and the Timbers reversed the result in the Reserve League, as they beat Chivas 4-2. Tristan Bowen started the scoring in the 17th minute, but Portland forward Bright Dike scored a pair in the 27th and 28th minutes before finishing his hat trick in the 56th minute. Former Chivas midfielder Sal Zizzo also scored a goal, and Marky Delgado notched one of his own. I'm looking forward to seeing the homegrown signing in action with the first team, hopefully soon. We shouldn't expect miracles from a 17 year old, but he's getting a lot of minutes playing recently, between the reserves and the U18 Chivas Youth Academy team.
As I've been stressing, reserve league results are not important, and given the choice, I'd take a first team win and a reserve team loss 100 times out of 100. Chivas also played a lot of guys who aren't even on the senior roster. U18 Academy players Jose Dheming and Eric Gonzalez played their second straight reserve match.
There were also some "guest player/trialists," although the information on them is practically nonexistent. The only player who was listed by first and last name was Fernando Rincon, who may or may not be a teenager from Oregon. As ever, if we find anything out about potential trialists, we'll let you know.
