This week's SB Nation MLS Power Rankings are out, and Chivas USA has moved up one spot this week to 12th. Of course, MLS editor Jeremiah Oshan couldn't help but get a dig in at the Goats in the process: "A little shocking to see them this high, which is more a commentary on what's happening beneath them."

Look, at this point, I think even the most optimistic of us realize that Chivas have a decent shot at the playoffs, but they'll need to step up and see some of the other contenders drop away in order for them to reach the goal for the season. And considering Chivas didn't sign anybody this year in the recently-closed summer transfer window, their reputation of being a less-than-fancied team continues for the time being. On the bright side, they did beat the Portland Timbers, who remain rooted in last place in the Power Rankings this week. On the downside, Chivas have to cool their jets through yet another break in play before resuming action August 12 against the LA Galaxy.

Just ahead of Chivas in the Power Rankings are the Columbus Crew and Chicago Fire, two Eastern Conference teams that have been quite inconsistent this season. Chivas certainly have a window to rise once again, as long as they keep racking up points.

The San Jose Earthquakes continue to roll at the top of the Rankings, unsurprisingly. The final two matches between Chivas and the Quakes should be very interesting indeed this season.
