As We All Know, Chivas USA Has No More USOC Home Games

Chivas USA have the biggest game of their season next week against the Seattle Sounders in the semifinal round of the 2012 U.S. Open Cup. Although it is best to worry about the game at hand before looking ahead to a possible final, logistics dictate that some thought does need to look ahead. It was announced today that three of the four semifinalists have a chance of hosting the final next month if they advance. The fourth team? You guessed it, Chivas USA. The club was not expected to make a bid to host the final, as they would have had to pay for the right, and that's not really their style.

On some level, it makes sense, since Chivas are one of only a few MLS clubs who do not own their own stadium, so they would presumably have to rent out the Home Depot Center on top of paying U.S. Soccer the requisite fee. The good news is that Chivas' road form has been good this season, certainly stronger than their home form, although that seems to have turned a corner. If Chivas beat Seattle at Starfire next week, they'll go to either Kansas City or Philadelphia for the final.

Here are the full scenarios: If Sporting Kansas City advance to the final, they will host either Chivas or Seattle. If the Philadelphia Union and Chivas advance, Philadelphia will host the Goats. And if Seattle and Philadelphia advance, Seattle would host the final.

As I said, however, for all teams involved, the first step is to win next week in the semifinal. From there, we'll know what the venue for the final is. And no matter what, Chivas will continue their road warrior narrative if they do what no team has been able to do in nearly four years, beat the Sounders in the Open Cup. We'll see!
