I just noticed an interesting piece of news over at thecup.us which is the best source on the web for the U.S. Open Cup, run by Josh Hakala. According to an article posted today by Hakala, Jose Correa was voted USOC player of the quarterfinal round by a panel of the North American Soccer Reporters, the same organization that votes for MLS Player of the Week honors. In a group of nominees that included Zach Scott (Seattle Sounders), CJ Sapong (Sporting Kansas City), and Lionard Pajoy (Philadelphia Union), Correa won the honors due to his two goal performance against the Charlotte Eagles, including the winner late in injury time to give Chivas USA their second semifinal berth in club history. According to Hakala, Correa is the first Chivas USA player to earn the nod of player of the round in the Open Cup.

In all, Correa has scored four goals in all competitions since joining Chivas, and he is tied for the team lead in goals scored with Juan Pablo Angel at this point. Given the promising play of Correa, Angel, and Juan Agudelo so far this year, let's hope the scoring picks up soon, and let's hope they continue helping Chivas get results, especially on Wednesday in the USOC semifinal against Seattle. Congratulations Jose!
