The latest SB Nation MLS Power Rankings were released today, and to my great surprise, Chivas USA stayed at 14th this week. Despite the many negative things said about Chivas since their terrible loss to the LA Galaxy last weekend, the teams below them in the rankings are either clearly worse than Chivas, or the hive mind believes one game should not necessarily drop a team.
The team immediately below the Goats is the Colorado Rapids, who are their opponents Saturday. Obviously, if Colorado beats Chivas again, one has to expect their places in the power rankings to reverse, but if Chivas can get a win, maybe they can also move up in the standings? The New England Revolution and Montreal Impact are immediately above Chivas, and they are far from perfect teams, so a win could move the Goats up again.
For what seems like the 90th week in a row, the San Jose Earthquakes top the power rankings this week. They still have a lot of work to do if they want to see their title ambitions fulfilled, but they look like the team of the regular season, no doubt about it.
