It seems the poor and ugly play has caught up to Chivas USA once again, as the SB Nation hive mind has decided that the Goats deserve 15th in the latest MLS Power Rankings. As Jeremiah Oshan puts it in his explanation for Chivas' position:"Do you realize they've scored 15 goals this year? Fifteen!" Yes, indeed it is well known around Chivatown, and frankly if I didn't follow the team, I probably wouldn't be particularly interested in watching them either this season. Don't get me wrong, Chivas have had some really good performances sprinkled in there, but even the most ardent supporter has to grant that this team gets results on the skin of its teeth. As a result, I really can't argue with a 15 spot this week. Perhaps the best news is that Chivas remain ahead of its opponent last week, the Colorado Rapids, in the standings and the power rankings this season.
Chivas' next opponent, the Seattle Sounders, sit in 4th place in the power rankings this week, after beating the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 last week. Chivas should take heart that they drew the Sounders 1-1 last time at the Home Depot Center, but after last week's performance, let's hope the Goats have stepped up their game in time for the next match.
The San Jose Earthquakes remain on top of the rankings this week, but voters are starting to waver after seeing the Quakes lose a wild game to the Montreal Impact last week in Montreal. I don't know, this is a league in which every team can beat every other team from time to time, and so I don't think it is indicative of any trend at this point. But we'll see how the Supporter's Shield leaders do this week.
