Once again, the new NWSL may not have a team in Los Angeles (or anywhere in California) but that doesn't mean there isn't quality women's soccer in the City of Angels! W-League team LA Strikers FC has released a couple of news items this week ahead of the 2013 season.

First, the club has announced their full schedule for the 2013 regular season. The season will last from mid-May until mid-July, and here's the full schedule:

Date Opponent Home/Away
May 18 Pali Blues Away
May 27 Seattle Sounders Away
May 31 SC Blue Heat Away
June 5 Seattle Sounders Home
June 7 Colorado Rapids Home
June 11 Bay Area Breeze Away
June 16 Bay Area Breeze Home
June 21 SC Blue Heat Home
June 29 Pali Blues Home
July 7 Colorado Rush Home
July 11 Colorado Rapids Away
July 14 Colorado Rush Away

The Strikers will play their home matches once again at Occidental College, located in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles. Tickets are not yet available, but needless to say, it will be an affordable draw - be sure to check them out if you haven't seen them yet!

In other news, the club has announced they will be holding open tryouts prior to the start of the season. If you know of any talented women who might be able to play in the W-League, be sure to tell them about the tryouts, which will be held April 5 and April 7. You can find more information about the tryouts on their website.

As for other player news, no announcements have been made yet as to which players will be returning and/or joining the team for the season. However, former Striker Zakiya Bywaters, who just finished her college career at UCLA, was drafted as the top overall pick in the NWSL college draft by the Chicago Red Stars earlier this month. In other words, you could see the stars of tomorrow on the Strikers of today!
