Fans watching the the Chivas USA and San Jose Earthquakes sides didn't need to wait until the after the 80th minute for a goal. Instead both teams scored in the first ten minutes as Matthew Bondy scored his first strike in the Red-and-White and the Earthquake's Mike Fucito both found the back of the net in the first ten minutes.

The remained level for the remainder of the first half but not for lack of trying on the visitors part. San Jose showed attacking tenacity with midfielders Sam Cronin and Fred Braun each being denied goal scoring opportunities.

The second half, like the first, immediately saw Chivas jump out to a lead as Jose Manuel Rivera--who had assisted on Fondy's goal--chipped Earthquakes keeper David Bingham.

Again, the lead would prove ephemeral as a Fucito cross, meant for Adam Jahn, deflected off Chivas defender Jaime Frias resulting in an own goal in the 51st minute.

Jahn would also have a hand in the final goal. While It was Earthquakes defender Jarad Vanschaik who delivered the winning goal in the 65th minute, Vanschaik's shot was the result of a Jahn header being deflected by Chivas goaltender Patrick McLain.
