Chivas USA game against Seattle Sounders June 11 rescheduled for September 3

Looks like the World Cup probably played a part in getting this one shifted.

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

Chivas USA announced Friday that there has been a change in the 2014 MLS regular season schedule. Chivas will host the Seattle Sounders September 3, 2014 instead of the original June 11 date. The game will take place at 7:30 pm PT at whatever the Galaxy's stadium will be called at that point. Both the original date and new date of the game will be on a Wednesday.

No reason was given for the shift in Chivas' press release, but after putting my thinking cap on, I noticed that the 2014 World Cup begins June 12, 2014, or the day after the original date of Chivas-Sounders. Though two MLS games are still scheduled for the day before the World Cup begins, it is entirely possible that one or both teams lobbied MLS to reschedule the game. Given the number of internationals on Seattle's team in 2012, I have to think they probably spearheaded the change, but that's just speculation on my part.
