Rumor: Chivas USA among teams interested in Eddie Johnson

Reports over the weekend indicate Chivas USA are interested in Seattle Sounders forward Eddie JohnsonSteven Goff reported that D.C. United, the LA Galaxy and Chivas are the main teams involved.

Although it looks like D.C. is the leading candidate to land the U.S. Men's National Team striker, word on the street is that Johnson's status as a national team player is giving him leverage to have input on where he ends up. And if he wants to go to LA, he won't be able to become a Designated Player with the Galaxy (unless MLS suddenly decides to expand the number of DPs on a team to four).

And the reason Johnson is on the outs in Seattle in the first place is because he publicly complained about how much money he was making and the "respect" he wanted.

Remember, Chivas nearly had an opportunity to pick up Johnson in 2011 (not that they would have), but he backed out of signing with the league that summer, eventually signing before the 2012 season.

Plus, the Goats have been pretty active trading partners with the Sounders, swapping Mauro Rosales and Tristan Bowen last week, and Chivas getting rid of Shalrie Joseph earlier this year. It could happen, as unlikely as it might seem.

But it's still a report, and there are certainly other teams in the mix. We'll keep you posted on any developments.
