If you are into college football, you know yesterday was a huge day for that sport, because it was national signing day. The same goes for other fall sports, including college soccer, and U.S. Soccer released a list of U.S. Developmental Academy players who announced their commitments yesterday. Of that group, seven players from Chivas USA's Academy were included:

Tyler Allen: The 17-year old has committed to Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego.

Caleb Calvert: The 16-year old made the early commitment to UC Santa Barbara.

Brian Charles: The 17-year old committed to Cal State University Bakersfield.

Romario Lomeli: 18-year old Lomeli has committed to UC Riverside, where former Chivas USA Academy player Eric Gonzalez just finished his first year.

Daniel Moreno: The 18-year old has also committed to CSU Bakersfield.

Josh Perez: The 15-year old made a very early commitment to UCLA.

Ben Spencer: The 17-year old committed to UC Santa Barbara.

Spencer, of course, has reportedly drawn the interest of pro club Molde in Norway, and is expected to sign a pro contract within the next couple months. For now, his college commitment sounds like a back-up plan. And although he is still young, Perez has already drawn considerable interest from pro clubs abroad, and may also sign a contract before heading to college. Still, UCLA isn't a bad program as far as NCAA programs go.

Another Academy player, Axel Mendez, 16, has committed to UC Santa Barbara, but he wasn't included in today's announcement, so I'm not sure if his decision is binding or not. Another Academy player, Adonis Amaya, has also reportedly committed to UCSB, so Chivas USA could have a real pipeline up the coast to the Gauchos.

Congrats to all the Academy players who have made the decision on a college, and best of luck in the remainder of their Academy careers, and beyond in college!
