Chivas USA has announced that they will face sister club Chivas de Guadalajara March 20 in a charity friendly match in Ciudad Juarez. The game, to take place at Juarez's Olympic Stadium (formerly the home of Indios Juarez) at 6 p.m. PT, will benefit EDUCARE, to provide educational assistance and infrastructure for children there, where violence has racked the city for well over a decade.

The game is evidently scheduled to coincide with Liga MX's international break, but MLS is not taking a break during that stretch, as Chivas have a game March 17 against the LA Galaxy (sure to be a big one), and a game March 24 against the Chicago Fire (on the road). No word whether Chivas USA will send a reserve team to the friendly in Juarez, if the entire squad will travel to Juarez and then to Illinois, or what. Although for competitive reasons I would hope the reserves feature for Chivas USA, I have a hunch that the loanees from Guadalajara could feature, since they will have name recognition to Mexican fans and could draw people to the stadium. Also, no word on whether this match will be televised in the U.S. or available on a stream. I assume most Chivas USA fans won't be making their way to Chihuahua, but if you are, let us know.

I am really glad to hear Chivas USA are involved in a charity effort, and I certainly think Juarez could use some wider attention. I'm a bit concerned as to the priority of this match compared to actual competitive MLS matches considering the timing, but we'll have to see how it all shakes out.
