Ok, the report is real. Chivas USA have just issued a release concerning the firing of Chelís, which they say is "mutual." He will be replaced by Jose Luis Real, as previously speculated. Whether the decision was mutual or not, they apparently decided to take some real shots at the former coach along the way.
I don't normally do this, but this release needs to be read in its entirety regarding the firing of Chelís. You can find all of it here, where it is also in Spanish.
CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, May 29, 2013) - Chivas USA announced today that the club has mutually agreed to part ways with Head Coach José Luis Sánchez Solá, "Chelís", due to the team's poor performance on the field.
Chivas USA currently find themselves in last place in the Western Conference standings heading into Week 14 of the 2013 Major League Soccer season.
As Chivas USA's Head Coach, Chelís has earned a record of 3-7-2, amasing a total of 11 points in 12 games.
Since his hiring, Sánchez Solá had at his disposal a competitive team with the institutional premise of a formal interaction, based in communication in which the club listened to his petitions to incorporate players approved by him. However, he was not able to reflect it with results.
While serving as Chivas USA Head Coach, Sánchez Solá not always followed the patterns of respect and conduct implemented by Major League Soccer, as well as by Chivas USA.
Because of this, effective immediately the head coaching duties will now be assumed by Mr. José Luis Real Casillas, who currently acts as Sporting Development Director at Chivas Guadalajara. His experience and knowledge of the organization will be key to continue moving forward with the current project and to find the best sporting results for the team in the current season.
The newly-appointed Head Coach will arrive to Chivas USA accompanied by Marco Fabián Vázquez, current Technical Director and champion with Chivas Guadalajara's U-20 team, who will fulfill the duties of assistant coach once all legal paperwork and procedures are met accordingly.
Chivas USA would like to welcome Head Coach José Luis Real Casillas to his new position within the organization.
So if I'm reading this the way the team intended, he is being blamed for being a bad coach who should have been able to succeed with the players on his squad. I think pretty much everybody who pays attention to this team or MLS would disagree with that sentiment, however intractable Chelís was regarding his coaching strategy.
Also, the team says he was disrespectful. Hey, you hired him...did you not know his temperament before offering him the job?
For his part, Chelís sent a tweet out following the official confirmation of the news:
Gracias a los jugadores de Chivas USA. Hoy somos mejores que hace 4 meses y en octubre seguro serán mejores que hoy.Una maravilla conocerlos.— José Luis Sanchez (@Elchelis) May 30, 2013
(Translation: Thanks to the Chivas USA players. Today we are better than four months ago and in October I'm sure you'll be better than today. It was a pleasure knowing you.)
What a day...what a day. What can tomorrow possibly bring?
