Once a Goat: Ryan Smith, Panchito Mendoza, Gerson Mayen all on the move?

In this week's OAG, we take a look at three former Chivas USA players who continue to ply their trade in various locations across the globe.

First, we visit Ryan Smith in Greece. Smith was only a part of the Goats for the 2012 season after requesting a trade to the team in order to support his family. However, Chivas USA decided not to keep him for this season, which was not much of a surprise. He quickly found a team in the Greek Super League, Skoda Xanthi. There is not much to find about his time in Greece, but his profile is no longer listed under the team's current roster on their website. That's probably a good indication he may be on the move, although he was still listed as a player for Skoda on this promotional video for a Soccer Without Limits event that evidently took place last weekend in Miami. So we'll see if the Englishman will be on the move to a third club in three seasons.

From Greece we head to Mexico. Since leaving his second term with Chivas USA in 2011, Francisco "Panchito" Mendoza spent a brief time in Costa Rica playing for Santos de Guapiles before signing with Club Universidad de Guadalajara, a team in Mexico's Ascenso MX. He will be on the move once more, however, as he was transferred in the Ascenso MX player draft from Leones Negros to CF Delfines del Carmen for the upcoming season. If that name sounds familiar, yes, it is shared by the famous Mexican baseball team. They appear to be new to the league for the 2013 Apertura, so it should be an interesting ride for Panchito.

Finally, we visit Gerson Mayen in Guatemala. Even though Mayen struggled to cement his place with Chivas USA, the Salvadoran-American has made a case for himself on the field since leaving MLS. Chivas USA included him with Justin Braun in a trade for James Riley with Montreal, who then waived him prior to the 2012 season. After a brief stint with the Los Angeles Misioneros, Mayen joined powerhouse Club Deportivo Futbolistas Asociados Santanecos (C.D. FAS or FAS) in El Salvador. According to Wikipedia, he has 28 appearances with 2 goals. Earlier this month, however, he was involved in a bit of controversy when it was reported that he trained with the Chicago Fire despite having another year left on his contract with FAS, and without the consent of the club. It is unclear as to how the situation will be resolved. While there isn't much to find about his club performance, it has been decent enough to warrant a spot on El Salvador's Gold Cup roster, where he joins current Chivas player Steve Purdy.
