So far this season, players from positions all over the field have won The Goat Parade's reader-voted Chivas USA Player of the Month award. For June 2013, we see our first repeat winner, as goalkeeper Dan Kennedy earns top honors once more. Although 10 eligible players received votes, DK received more than twice the votes of the next closest player, Tristan Bowen.
It is not hard to see why Kennedy stood out in what was a very difficult month for the Goats. In five games across two different competitions, Chivas had two different coaches, interim interim man Sacha van der Most and new interim coach Jose Luis Real, and limped to a 0-4-1 record, including being knocked out in the U.S. Open Cup to NASL side Carolina RailHawks.
While the results may not have been good last month, Kennedy was ever-present in goal for Chivas, and did his best to keep the Goats in the games. In particular, he had a seven save performance in the 1-1 draw against the New England Revolution to help Chivas end their seven game league losing streak.
With all the roster and lineup turnover this season, it is nice to see Kennedy remain as a constant between the posts. Here's hoping the months to come are more successful. And of course, congrats to Dan once more!
May 2013 winner: Josue Soto
April 2013 winner: Steve Purdy
March 2013 winner(s): Juan Agudelo, Eric Avila, Dan Kennedy
