Full 2013 MLS All-Star Game roster released: No Chivas USA players included

Will the ASG be Goatless this year? It sure looks like it.

Looks like no Chivas representation here July 31.

For the first time since 2005, Chivas USA may be without any MLS All-Star selections. Commissioner Don Garber and MLS All-Star coach Peter Vermes announced the gameday 18 for the All-Star Game today, which will be held July 31 in Kansas City against Serie A club AS Roma. Between their selections and those as voted on by the fans and selected via a FIFA 13 marketing ploy, no Chivas USA players were named to the team.

Now, in the meantime, there will be players who will withdraw from the roster, typically due to injury, and those players will have to be replaced. And there will be an "inactive roster" of players who won't feature in the game but will still be named All-Stars, that are voted on by the players, so there is a chance a Goat could get in one way or another.

Of course, Chivas were bad, often very bad, through the first half of the season, and so it probably doesn't come as a shock that no players have been selected to this point. Although Dan Kennedy is back in the top five in saves at the moment, his statistics from this season aren't favorable compared to other goalkeepers, and the remaining Chivas nominees (Bobby Burling, Mario de Luna, Eric Avila, Edgar Mejia, Tristan Bowen) don't have the superstar recognition nor the numbers to really make a compelling case for their selection. never know what could happen. If a Chivas USA player does get the nod this year, we'll be sure to let you know, but it is still tough to think that the Goats may be without any All-Stars, for the first time in eight years.
