Chivas USA have announced another move during the open transfer window, with the official word today that they have acquired Los Angeles-born defender Jaime Frias on loan from Chivas de Guadalajara. Frias has been training with Chivas USA for several weeks, but this makes the move official.
Frias, 20, has been in the Guadalajara youth system for the past few years, winning accolades as part of the youth teams. Although the release by the team noted his experience training with the first team, he has not made his full professional debut, nor is he listed as a member of the senior team. As a result, it is unclear if he will be expected to play much. It's also unclear what his primary position is on the back line. If he's a centerback, I'd say he may not see any time unless there's an injury or suspension crisis, but if he is a full back, he could see some action.
The addition of Frias brings the roster size to 28 players, 29 including inactive Ante Jazic, who evidently must remain on the roster all season. That means that if there are no more subtractions to the roster during the transfer window, Chivas USA have room for one more player addition. Mexican forward David Izazola has been rumored to be another transfer target, but there has been no official word from the club as of yet.
In any case, welcome to the team Jaime!
