What a difference a new forward made in the month of July. That's what the readers of The Goat Parade believed, anyway, as Chivas USA's Player of the Month for last month was indeed forward Erick Torres, who joined the team on loan last month.
It's not hard to see why Cubo turned so many heads. He scored in both of his appearances last month, the first in a win over Toronto FC, Chivas USA's first in league play since March, and it came despite Chivas playing down a man for most of the game. The second gave the Goats hope of their first-ever win over the Seattle Sounders up in Seattle, but his early strike was not enough to give Chivas any points in that match.
In fact, with his two goals, he already co-leads the team in league scoring, a fact that reflects poorly on the rest of the team, who have played far more than a few games this season. Still, hopefully Torres (anybody really, but Torres looks like the best bet) can continue to notch the goals and make the team-leading total far more respectable.
One has to assume Torres won't be a long-term member of this team, but he certainly made his mark in his first month with the club. Congrats Cubo!
