The San Jose Earthquakes have just begun pouring the concrete for the foundation on their new soccer specific stadium. Meanwhile, their foundation for taking three points from Chivas USA will come down to their direct, route one approach. Chivas, meanwhile, has enjoyed playing the spoiler role, taking points in all but one match in their last five games against Western Conference opponents. With depth and yellow card accumulations a concern for the defense, I’m wondering if Jose Luis Real will employ a five—or possibly six—man defense to stymie the Earthquakes. Such a change, pragmatic as it is, will also inhibit striker Erick Torres who now sits on a two-game goalless streak. Torres has played up top alone though technically Carlos Alvarez played behind him as a support striker. Julio Morales might not have the numbers to back it up, but he makes dangerous runs into the box and keeps defenses from double, even triple-marking Torres
