Chivatown Post: Waiting for the preseason edition

Are they out on the field yet?

The 2014 preseason is less than a week away for Chivas USA, and news is starting to come at a faster clip for the Goats. Let's get caught up on the latest:

Chivas held an open tryout last week for the U-23s and first team. Here's an article from the club's official website on the tryout, where three players made the the latest cut, a scrimmage Wednesday night. No word on who those three players were, but if any of them continue to impress, we may be seeing much more of them in the future.

Here's a video on the tryout, featuring comments by Chivas USA Academy director Sacha van der Most:

And for good measure here's a video of the U-23s 2-1 win over Corinthians U-23s at the weekend:

Let's cap off this slew of videos with an unfortunate gaffe by new Chivas USA defender Tony Lochhead while playing for New Zealand against Mexico (h/t @behindtheflock):

Jorge Vergara has apparently been talking again, and he mentions Chivas USA, though he brings up some of the same talking points from last season. In this article from Tiempo Real (Spanish), Vergara calls Chivas USA a "failure" that was effectively driven into the ground by the team's former partners, the unnamed Cue brothers. Question: what is the statute of limitations on complaining about the guys who are no longer around?

New Chivas USA draft pick Michael Nwiloh by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's website following his selection Tuesday. He said it was "a pretty big surprise" to be selected, though he had spoken with several MLS clubs in the lead-up to the draft, and that Chivas only showed interest later than other teams. You can read the full interview here.

This article from SB Nation's Chicago Fire blog Hot Time in Old Town compares available season ticket prices among MLS teams. The result? Chivas USA have the cheapest season tickets in the league, and even their most expensive package is third cheapest in the league.
