The next step in deconstructing Chivas USA took place, in a sense, on Friday, as the draft order for the Dispersal Draft, which will take place Nov. 19, was determined. Using a weighted draw system where non-playoff qualifying teams in 2014 had two envelopes in the mix and playoff qualifiers had one, four of the top five picks ended up being playoff teams anyway.
Here's the full order:
1. FC Dallas
4. D.C. United
7. Orlando City SC
10. Real Salt Lake
11. Houston Dynamo
12. Portland Timbers
13. Chicago Fire
14. Toronto FC
15. Columbus Crew SC
16. LA Galaxy
19. Seattle Sounders
The release about the Dispersal Draft order noted that picks cannot be traded. Obviously, players taken after the fact can be, but the picks themselves can't be traded ahead of the Draft.

Chivas USA players who are not taken in the Dispersal Draft will then become eligible for the Waiver Draft or the Re-Entry Drafts, depending on their experience level in MLS. Don't be surprised to see a few players who don't get taken in the Dispersal Draft but are ultimately taken in the other drafts, because players in the Dispersal Draft must have their contract options/contract itself picked up, while players in the Waiver or Re-Entry Drafts can negotiate with teams, to a certain extent, about their salaries. Obviously, this benefits teams, since players are pretty much never taken in the Waiver or Re-Entry Drafts, negotiate their deals, and make far more money than they would have otherwise - they make less nearly all of the time, sometimes far less than the year before.
Obviously, we'll have coverage of the Dispersal Draft next week. For now, how many players do you think will be selected? Where will Dan Kennedy land? Leave a comment below!
