With qualification to the Central American and Caribbean Games semis already in hand, Mexico's U-21 squad had little pressure against Jamaica on Saturday in their final match of the group stage.
Although Mexico utilized a "B" squad for the match, their win was their most convincing of the group stage. By the 35th minute of the game, Mexico was already up 3-0 with a hat-trick by Martin Zuñiga. Two minutes later, Hedgardo Marin scored another to make it 4-0 for Mexico.
El Tri lowered the pace of the game afterwards and eventually ended the match with a dominating 5-0 win over Jamaica. The Mexican squad easily had the most possession of the ball and had a total of 25 shots during the game.
Up next for Mexico's U-21 squad is the semifinal game against either Venezuela or Cuba on Wednesday. Mexico have come out as the favorites of the competition and at this point, it looks like they will probably not have much in their way of a gold medal.
Note: Erick Torres, along with many other starters for Mexico, was left on the bench against Jamaica. With the games coming every two days, that's not a big surprise, especially with qualification to the knockout round settled.
Mexico: Martin Zuñiga 13', Martin Zuñiga 21', Martin Zuñiga 35', Hedgardo Marin 37', Armando Zamorano 53'
