Another of Chivas USA's goalkeepers in 2014 has officially found a new home.
Sporting Kansas City announced on Tuesday that they have signed Tim Melia, who spent time during the 2014 season as an emergency 'keeper with the club after his departure from Chivas. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Sporting KC have made major changes to their GK corps for the 2015 season, signing Luis Marin from Chile and dumping Eric Kronberg and Andy Gruenebaum. Melia will likely battle the only returning 'keeper on the roster, Homegrown player Jon Kempin, to determine who will be second and who will be third on depth chart behind Marin.
Melia, of course, played for CUSA from 2012-14, getting playing time in each of his three seasons with the team. He was rather shockingly waived in July, with Chivas opting to go with just two 'keepers the rest of the season. As I mentioned, he played the rest of the season as an MLS pool goalkeeper, and that stint ended up being an audition of sorts with KC.
Best of luck to Tim moving forward.
