The start of the 2014 MLS season is just under a month away and Chivas USA have been busy preparing against some lower division squads, prior to taking on MLS teams in the Desert Diamond Cup in Arizona, hosted by FC Tucson.

Chivas USA recently defeated the newly dubbed Orange County Blues, formerly known as the Los Angeles Blues. What's interesting about this Blues development is that they've moved out of Cal State Fullerton and over to Anteater Stadium at UC Irvine, which leaves some wondering if Chivas USA will seek CSUF's Titan Stadium as a home now that there's no pro soccer tenant there. Chivas have made Titan Stadium their home in the past for special games involving the U.S. Open Cup and the now defunct SuperLiga. Will Titan Stadium soon house MLS matches, albeit as a temporary home for Chivas?
Titan Stadium has also housed U.S. National Soccer Team matches since 1994, and it's called the second-best soccer-specific facility in the LA area only behind the StubHub Center. It's also considered "one of the finest in the nation."
In other parts of the Chivas Nation, CD Guadalajara marches 8th in Liga Bancomer MX with a record of 2 wins, 3 ties and 1 loss.
On a serious note, Jorge Vergara has been given a court date, towards the end of February concerning allegations of racial discriminatory hiring practices at Chivas USA made in May of last year (Spanish).
Ex-Goat Brad "El Gusano" Guzan has notched 7 shutouts for Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Former Chivas USA coach Jose Luis Sanchez Sola, aka "Chelís" was hired to take the reigns of Tiburones Rojos (Red Sharks) de Veracruz in Liga Bancomer MX. Alas, Chelis and the Red Sharks won't get a shot at sporting revenge against Jorge Vergara and Chivas this season, as Veracruz already faced Chivas in week 3, in a game that ended up knotted at 1.
In "other" preseason action, Pumas UNAM dropped rival LA Galaxy 2-1 at the National Autonomous University of Mexico's (UNAM) Estadio Olímpico Universitario in Mexico City. Pumas fielded a "B" squad.
