Chivas USA won a game that counts in 2014! And not just that, the result of their first game of the season could be an omen for a much better season than...the last four that came before. Sure, that's not hard to accomplish. But it could mean a postseason berth.
Of course, it would be foolish to say that one game in a 34-game season would determine the outcome for the season, and it would be especially foolish to say the first game would determine whether a team would make the playoffs or not.
However...every time Chivas USA have lost their opening game (2005, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) they have not qualified for the MLS Cup playoffs.
And every time Chivas USA has won or tied their first match of the season prior to this year, they have made the playoffs (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009).
So, if that pattern stands, get ready for at least one Goats playoff game come October/November!
Again, I realize that using that fact to support a prediction is beyond foolish.
But it is food for thought. Let's check back in 7.5 months time and find out if the pattern continued in Chivas USA's last year under the current name!
