Official: Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista leaves Chivas USA

More roster movement, although this one isn't probably a big surprise.

Chivas USA announced on Tuesday that they have indeed parted ways with Mexican forward Adolfo Bautista, popularly known as Bofo. According to the release, the decision came by mutual consent.

Bautista, 34, joined the club in the offseason, after years of being linked with the club. Signed while the team was still under the control of Jorge Vergara, Bofo's situation appeared unsettled following the league takeover of the club, in addition to the fact that he had barely played any competitive soccer the previous couple years.

Still, he did get some opportunities under CUSA coach Wilmer Cabrera, mostly coming off the bench. He made seven competitive appearances in total for the Goats, with one assist.

Showing he was still capable of making an outstanding pass, Bofo was clearly unable to really run, something of a killer in a league like MLS, where fitness is essential. Plus, given his reputation for eccentricities, not to mention the fact that he was playing outside of Mexico for the first time in his career, made it likely this move was not going to be a rousing success. In fact, it pretty much happened like most folks figured it would.

However, it must be acknowledged that Bofo remains a favorite among many Mexican soccer fans, and fans at Chivas USA games called out his name regularly, and got excited when he made his way on the field. While I don't think Chivas USA should have kept him around merely as a marketing ploy, there's no doubt there will be fans disappointed that he's gone already. At the same time, the fact that his departure is a mutual decision is probably an acknowledgment on the player's part that he wasn't fully up for this challenge.

It's unclear at the moment if Bofo will continue to play or if this marks the end of his playing career. Chivas USA can check "The Bofo Experience" off their bucket list, while Bofo can mark "Played in MLS" off of his.
