Chivas USA's reserves beat USL PRO side Arizona United SC 4-0 on Saturday night thanks to a hat trick from Ryan Finley and a goal from Kristopher Tyrpak.
Using a definite reserve lineup, the Goats battered the newly formed Arizona team from the top. Tyrpak collected his goal in the 14th minute, followed by Finley's first just a minute later off a pass from Tyrpak.
Finley then scored his second in the 42nd minute as he chipped United goalkeeper Evan Newton, to give Chivas a 3-0 lead going into the break.
Tyrpak then set up the last goal, indirectly, in the 70th minute when he was taken out with a poor challenge by Tyler Ruthven, who picked up a straight red card for the play. Tyrpak was subbed out a few minutes later, though it is unclear if he was injured or not as a result of the play.
Finley took the resulting PK and buried it in the 74th minute to give CUSA the resounding 4-0 win. From watching the feed, it looked like Finley was trying to do a little celebration after notching his hat trick, before a teammate came over to him to apparently tell him to knock it off.
Here was Chivas' starting XI for the match:
Tim Melia; Tony Lochhead, Eriq Zavaleta, Michael Nwiloh, Anthony Rodriguez; Carlos Alvarez, Jonathan Hernandez, Matthew Fondy, Kris Tyrpak; Caleb Calvert, Ryan Finley
Rodriguez is part of Chivas USA's U-18 Academy team. Hernandez is on CUSA's U-16 Academy team.
Trevor Spangenberg replaced Melia at halftime, while U-18 Academy player Jonathan Caparelli entered the game for Tyrpak in the 76th minute. Another U-18 player, Michael Flores, took over for Alvarez in the 78th minute, and the final sub went to CUSA U-16 Academy player Ivan Gutierrez in second half stoppage time for Calvert.
Former Chivas USA midfielder Daniel Antunez served as captain for Arizona United in the match, and former Chivas USA draft pick Jon Okafor came off the bench for United in the second half.
Chivas' next scheduled reserve league game comes June 21 against the Orange County Blues, another USL PRO side. It's scheduled to be a night game at the moment, though the location is currently listed as TBD. Like this game against Arizona United, the game against the Blues will come on a night when the first team is off, as MLS goes on hiatus during the group stage of the World Cup.
One last note: here's an article on Tyrpak from the local press after his performance last night.
