If the World Cup isn't enough soccer for you at the moment, if you are a club over country kind of person, or if you just want to see live pro soccer in Southern California, you are in luck. Chivas USA will wrap up their end of the MLS-USL PRO partnership this evening with a game between CUSA's reserves and the Orange County Blues at 7 pm PT at Anteater Stadium in Irvine. The Blues, who rebranded in the offseason and moved to Irvine, currently sit in the middle of the USL PRO pack, in 7th place overall. And remember, this game will count for the Blues in their league standings.
It will be Chivas' third and final official reserve game of the year against USL PRO opposition, following a 3-1 loss to Sacramento Republic FC in April and a 4-0 win over Arizona United SC last month. Like the game against Sacramento, there are players with ties between both clubs, as Chivas USA forward Matthew Fondy played for the Blues prior to signing with the Goats last season, and former CUSA forward Chris Cortez and goalkeeper Patrick McLain currently play for the Blues.
Expect to see a proper reserve lineup from Chivas in this game, despite the first team having a break in MLS play during the World Cup group stage. There may be a few starters featuring, but it will be primarily squad players and likely an Academy player or two.
Tickets should still be available for the game, if you want to catch it in person, and you can find information on buying tickets here. You can also watch the game on YouTube, as it will be streamed live here.
