Report: Nathan Sturgis set to be traded to Chivas USA

Is Wilmer Cabrera going back to familiar surroundings once more to pick up a player?

Colorado Rapids beat writer Chris Bianchi tweeted out some potential news on Monday afternoon:

The 26-year-old midfielder has been with the Rapids since the start of the 2013 season. In fact, he's racked up quite the list of MLS teams in his career to date: LA Galaxy (2006-07), Real Salt Lake (2007-08), Seattle Sounders (2009-10), Toronto FC (2011), Houston Dynamo (2012), and the Rapids. If he joins and plays for Chivas USA, he will break the league record for most teams played for by a player, with seven.

Sturgis is coming off a career year in 2013, when he scored four goals (including one against the Goats) and really held down a starting spot in the midfield for much of the season.

But the move doesn't necessarily make a ton of sense, on paper anyway. We would need to know what CUSA would give up in the trade, but midfield, and in particular defensive midfield, is in good shape at the moment, especially with Oswaldo Minda returning to the team after playing in the World Cup. Maybe Sturgis would be full back depth? Again, it seems like a strange move.

Of course, Chivas USA coach Wilmer Cabrera is familiar with Sturgis from his time as Rapids assistant coach. Will this deal come through? Will it make more sense once the dust settles? We will, as always, have the information on this developing story as it becomes available.
