Chivas USA Academy: Ivan Gutierrez named to USSDA Western Conference best XI

One of the leading scorers in the country last season, Gutierrez is recognized for his play.

Good news! Another honor has come in for a Junior Goat this week. Chivas USA Academy forward Ivan Gutierrez was named to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy's U-15/16 starting XI for the Western Conference for the 2013-14 season.

Gutierrez, 16, split his time between the CUSA U-16s and U-18s in league play, scoring 18 goals last season, which put him as best on his U-16 team and tied for ninth in the entire USSDA in scoring in his age group. He also ranked tied for sixth overall in the Western Conference in scoring.

Gutierrez has received call-ups to both the U.S. U-17 National Team and the Mexico U-17 National Team in recent months. His twitter bio says "Mexico National Team U-17," so I'd wager he's made his decision for the moment on which team he's going to cast his lot with, but Chivas USA's story about his honor says he's "[exploring] his national team options." At the youth team level, that's entirely fair, but it's not bad for a player to have both countries seeking him at this stage.

Congratulations to Ivan for the season honor! Best of luck moving into next season too!
