Chivas USA forward Erick "Cubo" Torres named MLS Player of the Week

The star striker is finally starting to get more credit around the league.

Many times in recent years, having two games in a week for Chivas USA meant two losses, or at least one solid performance and one bad one to sour attitudes. But timing of the schedule, the team's effort in coming out of the World Cup break, and, oh yeah, some phenomenal goals from striker Erick Torres, have lifted spirits in the past week in a way we haven't seen in far too long.

As a result of scoring two goals in Chivas USA's two games last week, both winners in 1-0 games against the San Jose Earthquakes and Montreal Impact, Torres was voted MLS Player of the Week for Week 17 on Monday. The award is voted on by the North American Soccer Writers.

Cubo is the first Chivas USA player to take Player of the Week honors since Juan Agudelo in Week 4 of the 2013 season.

Torres was also named to MLS' Team of the Week, and his stunning bicycle kick winner at the death against the Impact is in the running for Goal of the Week - go vote for it now!

Congrats to Cubo, and keep up the fantastic work!
