Academy: Chivas USA U-18s fall to Bethesda-Olney in USSDA quarterfinals

The run is over, but it was still a successful season.

Chivas USA's U-18 Academy team attempted to extend their playoff run with a quarterfinal match against Maryland side Bethesda-Olney on Monday. After keeping the match scoreless through regulation time, the East Coast team came up with two goals in extra time, courtesy of Jake Rozhansky in the 95th minute, and Daniel Kaiser in the 105th minute.

The loss means Chivas USA are out of the USSDA's Finals Week, so they won't be among the final four gunning for the national title. While obviously a disappointment, it's quite an accomplishment to progress so far, but given the upheaval in the CUSA Academy, especially among this particular age group, getting to the final eight of the playoffs has to be seen as a successful season.

Great job to all of the players, to head coach Brian Kleiban and his staff, and to the Academy as a whole. We're proud of our Junior Goats, and we wish the U-18s the best of luck in whatever the future holds for them.
