Rumor: Chivas USA trading Mauro Rosales to Vancouver Whitecaps for Nigel Reo-Coker?

Is a real shakeup coming to the Goats' roster?

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Here's a potential bombshell: reports from Vancouver have it that Chivas USA midfielder Mauro Rosales has been/will be traded to the Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker.

Rosales has been a tireless worker, and does indeed lead the team this season in assists, but he hasn't been as big of a hit on the offensive end in 2014 as I think many expected. He is a Designated Player, leading to considerable speculation on that front about that perhaps being the motivation for the move.

For his part, Reo-Coker seemed to fit in well in Vancouver in 2013 before kind of dropping off a cliff this season, especially following a bizarre "walking accident" in Vancouver that lead to a concussion and several weeks' absence from the lineup.

Also, while he's versatile, Reo-Coker is more of a defensive midfielder, or perhaps a box-to-box midfielder, and is definitely not a midfield playmaker. So Chivas would be dumping their only legit playmaker if they got rid of Rosales.

We'll obviously keep tabs on this situation and let you know if there are developments to the story. Stay tuned!
