Following the report from Goal.com late Thursday that Chivas USA midfielder Eric Avila has been sold to Liga MX outfit Santos Laguna for next season, comes confirmation from the club regarding the report.
MLSsoccer.com reported on Friday that a team spokesperson confirmed the club has agreed to a deal in principle to sell Avila to Santos. The deal cannot be officially completed right now because the transfer window is closed in Mexico and won't reopen until after the current season ends in December. As a result, Avila will remain with CUSA for the rest of the current MLS season, which ends next month.
The MLSsoccer.com article does note that the deal is not finalized at the moment, so there's a chance Santos could get cold feet or something, but it really does look like Avila is the first postseason departure for the Goats following two seasons with the club.
